Aftercare Instructions

Keeping your tattoo clean is the most important factor when talking about aftercare. Your tattoo is an open wound, and it is important to treat it as such. Try to limit contact to any contaminated surfaces.

Bandage/Wrap

Leave wrap on until you arrive at a safe place to clean your tattoo.

Thoroughly wash hands and gently remove bandaging. With warm water, rinse off your tattoo and apply non scented, liquid antibacterial hand soap.

Clean the tattoo using soap and water with the palms of your hands.

Rinse off soap thoroughly, and pat try with a clean paper towel.

Once dry, apply a thin layer of a non scented ointment of your choice. (Aquaphor is one of the most common ointments used for tattoos)

*Do not use anything that is for deep moisturizing. It is important to only use a thin layer, so that the tattoo can breathe.*

Repeat these 2-4x a day, until the tattoo is completely healed.

(Most tattoos will take 3-4 weeks)

Saniderm/Tegaderm/Waterproof Bandage

These methods are recommended for most tattoos. Allergies to adhesive may not let every client be able to use these.

These bandages are sterile, breathable, and waterproof. Keeping it covered with these bandages greatly reduces risk of infection and contamination.

Leave on for a full 3-4 days.

*if irritation occurs you may remove after 24 hours and follow directions for bandage/wrap care.

Showering with this bandage on is okay, these are reasonably waterproof. * Do not swim or bathe until your tattoo is fully healed.

After 3-4 days, remove the bandage by carefully peeling away from your skin. Do not tear it off quickly, as it can cause skin irritation. To ease removal of adhesive run the area under warm water via faucet or shower head.

After removing the covering, rinse the tattoo thoroughly with warm water and wash. Rinse several times with an unscented liquid antibacterial soap and warm water. Gently work any excess material off the surface of your skin using the palm of your hand.

Pat tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. For the next 7-10 days, keep the tattoo clean by washing with an unscented liquid antibacterial soap and warm water 2-4x a day, and applying a thin layer of unscented ointment after.

How do I know my tattoo is healed?

Generally tattoo’s take 3 - 4 weeks to completely heal. These times vary on many factors, and will be based on tattoo size, design, location, individual clients skin, and treatment.

Your tattoo will no longer have scabs, be itchy, or sore, or have a scaly texture when the tattoo is fully healed.

It is important to make sure the tattoo is kept clean, dry, and moisturized during the entire duration of the healing process.

What to expect during the healing process

Swelling, redness, itchiness, and soreness are all common during the healing process.

Scabbing is also normal. Do not pick at or peel any scabs.

If you have any concerns during this process, feel free to reach out to your artist for further information.

Signs of an infection can include rashes, yellow or green fluid, pus, and swelling.

If you have concerns that you may have an infection, reach out to your primary care physician.
